Dental implant planning involves evaluating the proposed implant site, available bone and nearby anatomical structures. Three-dimensional imaging may be considered when additional information is needed for a specific clinical question.
What can 3D imaging contribute?
When clinically justified, CBCT images can help a treating clinician assess the shape and dimensions of the jawbone and the location of structures such as the mandibular canal or maxillary sinus.
Planning is individual
Imaging is one part of a broader assessment. Medical and dental history, clinical examination, restorative goals and the treating clinician’s judgement all contribute to a treatment plan.
